Our Practice

We Create Transformative Furnishings That Last for Generations.

Our Philosophy

All objects are the expression of an open exploration to shape a world where furniture becomes living architecture.

Our Materials

We treat material as both structure and possibility, drawing out its weight, tension, and character through experimentation, precise craft, and sculptural command of form itself.

Bronze
Either hand-textured and welded or sculpted and cast, each bronze piece goes through a multi-day process to achieve its desired tone.

Steel
Humble yet essential, steel is the backbone of our work, allowing for scalability and structural innovation.

We coat our wood with custom finishes and waxes to increase the durability and longevity.

In each meticulously crafted piece,

Douglas Fanning pulls from his architectural background to create luxury furnishings that defy expectations of gravity and materiality. With steel, bronze and brass as the backbone of his practice, practical engineering and traditional and contemporary fabrication methods are deployed to achieve a sense of weightless monumentality. The effect is at once striking and subtle in its exploration of geometric and organic forms. Known for pairing strict minimalism with idiosyncratic shape-making and a "tough-beauty" ethos, Fanning artfully transforms material into sophisticated compositions that both satisfy and challenge formal considerations of proportion, scale, structure and detail.

‍

After receiving a Masters in Architecture from Columbia University in 1994, Fanning pivoted to design in order to realize his ideas more immediately. He has a hands-on, collaborative, and process driven approach rooted in experimentation and craftsmanship. He lives and works in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
